IN little more than a month the athletics facility at Blacktown Olympic Park in Rooty Hill will become home to one of the largest community concerts ever staged in the area.
On Saturday, March 20, Concert For A Cure will gather 10 acts with the collective aim of raising funds for the Westmead Medical Research Foundation, which investigates cancers and other diseases.
Running from noon to 8pm, the event will feature 2010 Golden Guitar winner for best new talent Victoria Baillie, and previous Golden Guitar winners Beccy Cole and Dianna Corcoran.
Others on the bill include Luke O'Shea, Tori Darke and Gemma Luxton.
The event was devised by three residents who have each been affected by cancer in various ways and had held their own smaller scale fundraising events last year.
For Concert For A Cure the trio have received assistance from the Olympic Park and Blacktown Council.
One of the organisers is Blacktown resident and Sun editor Matt Lawrence.
``This really is a local Big Day Out - but with better music,'' he said.
``The venue is fantastic and the event is focused on being family friendly.
``While the primary focus is on raising funds, this event will serve as a fantastic way for the community to come together.''
Tickets will be priced at $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors and $25 for families (two adults and three children).
More details, including ticketing outlets will be released next week.
