Bike cuts costs, travel made easy

``Besides obeying all traffic rules I wear safety gear like leather jacket and boots for protection.''

A recent Newspoll study showed more than half of NSW road users (58per cent) interviewed, agreed that tension existed between car drivers and motorcyclists, with the highest levels of tension (79per cent) felt by motorists aged 18 to 24.

The chairman of the Motorcycle Council of NSW, Guy Stanford, said simmering tensions could have a critical impact on the overall safety of riders.

He welcomed NSW Motorcycle Awareness Week from October 25 to November 1, saying it would raise awareness of the benefits of motorcycle use as a fun, fuel-efficient and convenient way to travel, while encouraging other road users to keep an eye out for motorcycles and scooters.

The NSW Motorcycle Council will host its annual Breakfast Talk at Loftus Oval, Loftus on October 25 and riders will receive a free breakfast with riding demonstrations and a safety gear fashion parade from 8am to 11am.

`` Negative attitudes of motorcyclists still remain on our roads and there's anecdotal feedback that recent hysteria around bikie-laws have inflamed the situation,'' Mr Stanford said.

``Road users need to realise that motorcyclists are from all walks of life and the next rider you see could be your father, sister, boss or partner.''
