CIVIL Contractors Federation(CCF) chief executive David Elliott was dubbed a political opportunist for suggesting Blacktown will be the biggest loser if the $6 billion Sydney Metro plan is approved.
Blacktown State MP Paul Gibson said he found Mr Elliott's statement ridiculous as funding for one area would not affect another.
``He is saying it to try win the votes from residents,'' said Mr Gibson, a Labor MP who is also opposed to the plan.
Plan of Sydney's metro line was unveiled by former Premier Nathan Rees late last year.
Mr Gibson was responding to Mr Elliott's claim last week that Blacktown would miss out on road and rail upgrades while inner city residents get yet another public transport option.
He said Mr Elliott is the ambitious Liberal Party stalwart who lost out to his party mate, Alex Hawke in a preselection for the Federal seat of Mitchell just before the last election.
``Mr Elliott is drawing a long political bow to get a federal seat in the area for the 2010 election.''
Mr Elliott said the Sydney Metro didn't make any sense at $1 million per metre to service a part of Sydney awash with existing public transport options.
He said it would cause Blacktown to lose a northwest rail line, upgraded train stations, new commuter car parks and better roads in Sydney's west and northwest.
``Infrastructure experts have questioned the need for a Metro line parallel to the existing light rail and near heavy rail and bus lanes.''
Mr Elliott rejected NSW Government's suggestion that Sydney Metro will create thousand of jobs saying it will involve a massive amount of tunnelling work that is not labour intensive.
