TWO Blacktown dance students have come up tops for the second year running at the McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge.
Sasha Krajnc and Maricar Delacruz who won the Under 14 Jazz Duo division in 2007, won the Open Age division this year.
Sasha said he and Maricar were worried about dancing against full time students from other school who are five years older than them.
``I reckon we won because of the hard work we put in,'' he said.
Dance Junction School teacher Shayne Allen said the duo was so electrifying to watch they gave you goose bumps.
`` Their maturity on stage is mind blowing. Even though they are four years too young for the show,So You Think You Can Dance, they are just as good or not better than some.
She said the duo only practised for about half an hour each week.
``However they take classes in jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre, ballroom, hip hop, acrobatics, singing and drama.''
Maricar said they used some of the moves and style taught by Dance Junction for their winning dance routine.
``We take our work seriously because we love it. It's hard dancing with a boy but Sash is like a brother to me and we help each other out a lot,'' she said.
`` I couldn't ask for a more supportive and talented partner.''
The duo who also competed in the Open Tap Duo division came second to another couple that included Sasha's sister, also from Dance Junction.
``I was hoping my big sister wouldn't beat me but at the end it was first and second and that's all that counts.''
