DON'T miss the chance to get close with an endangered red-tailed black cockatoo, a wedge-tailed eagle and other Australian parrots in the show Feathered Friends Travelling Zoo.
On Sunday, December 4, the bird show Feathered Friends Travelling Zoo are making their way to Mamre Homestead for two performances.
Have the opportunity to see and touch birds such as parrots, owls and a wedge-tailed eagle named Elanor.
Elanor is NSW'S only travelling eagle and will make her debut performance at the Mamre Homestead show.
Wedge-tailed eagles are Australia's largest raptor with a wingspan of up to two metres wide and can weigh up to 4.5kg.
These birds hunt prey from rabbits to small kangaroos.
Elanor is approximately 34 years old and weighs 3.8kg.
She is the oldest and heaviest bird in the show.
See bird-eating spiders, bearded dragons, stick insects and many more. The show will also teach important lessons.
"In the show we have birds that are very rare and you will only see in the wild," said bird trainer and presenter of Feathered Friends, Ravi Wasan.
"We want to show people the way they interact with the environment could impact on the animals living there in a positive or a negative way.
"For instance, we will have a cockatoo who will pick up rubbish and put it in the bin.
"We are showing people to put their rubbish in the bin.
"We also want to send a message about motorists on the road to slow down.
"Elanor our eagle was hit by a car before she came to us.
"So Elanor will come out with a message and which will tell our audience about Elanor's story to teach drivers to slow down while on the roads."
