DOONSIDE is now equipped with a world-class recreational spot.
Officially opened last week, the multi-million Bungarribee Park, on the corner of Doonside and Holbeche roads, has walking and cycle tracks, a leash-free area for dogs and a bird hideout.
Named after Blacktown Aboriginal custodian, Darug Elder Bungarribee, it is open daily from 8am to 7pm.
The park is part of the Western Sydney Parklands, which was listed by the government to become a space for conservation and recreational use.
During the park's creation, extensive planting of natives plants was carried out, as well as watercourse rehabilitation to improve water quality and enrich the habitat for native animals.
Western Sydney Minister David Borger, who attended last week's opening ceremony, said almost $1.5million had been spent on the first stage of the project.
``A total of $10million will be spent over the next five years to expand the recreation facilities at the site,'' he said.
``This investment is about creating a world-class park that western Sydney residents would be proud to call their own. It's part of the first major urban parks to be established in Australia in the 21stcentury.''
