BLACKTOWN'S Sudanese migrants now have a one-stop shop in the heart of the city where they can address all of their resettlement issues.
The recently opened Sudanese Settlement Services Centre at 3/23-27 Second Avenue is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
It is staffed by co-ordinator Uling Kang and two volunteers who speak Sudanese Arabic, Juba Arabic, Dinko, Luo and English.
A Sudanese Settlement Program was set up by Equatoria Community and Welfare Association NSW with help from Cabramatta Community Centre and Fairfield Migrant Resource Centre, funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services Parliamentary Secretary Laurie Ferguson opened the centre last week.
Mr Kang said the centre provided services for refugees, humanitarian and economic migrants from Sudanese backgrounds living in Western Sydney.
``We offer information and referral services, case work and organise information sessions on needs identified by the community,'' he said.
``The problems include housing, employment, education, Centrelink and immigration matters.
``We also organise building activities in partnership with other local services.''
