BLACKTOWN City Council will once again get into the Christmas spirit on Thursday, November 19, when it lights up the first of its Christmas trees in the Civic Plaza, Blacktown.

Residents are encouraged to go along with their families and friends to enjoy the free evening of entertainment in a special Christmas Tree Light Up Concert at the Civic Plaza, Flushcombe Road, from 6pm.

The soon-to-be-installed Christmas tree will sit on a one-metre base, stand close to six metres high and be adorned with Christmas decorations and multi-coloured fairy lights, of which 85 per cent will be made from recycled materials.

The Christmas Tree Light Up Concert marks the first event in council's Christmas program this year, which also includes the Blacktown City Mayoress Christmas Appeal, the Blacktown City Decorate Your Home Christmas Competition and the Mount Druitt Christmas Tree Light Up Concert in Dawson Mall, Mount Druitt, on November 26.

In addition to the Civic Plaza's Christmas program, council will be installing 260Christmas banners across the city.

The banners will feature contemporary Christmas designs and a traditional nativity scene representing the birth of Christ.
