Our Relay For Life tally busts a million

03 Nov, 2009 08:42 AM
AFTER seven years of playing host to the Cancer Council's Relay For Life event, Blacktown residents have helped raise more than $1 million for research.

Over the weekend 82 teams gathered for the event at Blacktown Olympic Park.

Together they raised $114,000 for the cause.

The event was officially declared open by Blacktown Mayor Charlie Lowles and fellow councillor and Cancer Council ambassador Kathie Collins.

Before the teams started their 24-hour trek around the track, cancer survivors completed an honorary lap.
