BLACKTOWN Council is preparing to get funky this Sunday when it presents Hot Summer Grooves at Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside.
From 3pm to 9pm, lakeside is the place to be with sounds provided by The Sauerkraut Stompers, Alter Ego Blues Band, Groove Thang and The Kamis.
This great show used to be called Jazz in the Park, and this year's line-up incorporates blues, soul and rhythm-and-blues as well as jazz.
The Kamis, who are top of the bill, will start presenting their compelling act, with its distinctive sound, at 7.15pm. It's a wide selection from the 1980s to current hits.
Their style is best described as an Islander fusion of hip-hop, reggae, disco and funk, fronted by soulful vocals and backed by blissful harmonies.
``Hot Summer Grooves is a unique event and is the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon, lakeside with a picnic in hand with your friends and family,'' said Blacktown Mayor Charlie Lowles.
Entry to the event is free.
