ONE of two radio plays to be performed near Blacktown this Sunday is guarantee to bring the house down with laughter.
The comedy is called a Thin Man adventure, The Case of the Goofy Groom while the other, The Other Side of the Stars, is a mystery.
The two radio plays will be staged at Leura House, 7 Britain Street, Leura at 2.30pm on September 27.
Dashiell Hammett wrote the detective novel that was turned into a comedy play in 1934.
It is about ex-detective, Nick Charles and his sophisticated, glamorous and wealthy wife, Nora and their escapades while unravelling mysteries, sleuthing and solving murders.
The radio series was broadcast on four networks in the USA from 1941 to 1950 followed by the production of six comic detective films.
They portrayed the couple's infectious relationship, charming one-upmanship, affectionate criticism and inebriated fun full of martinis time.
Blue Mountains Radio Players director Juliette Frederick said it was a very funny play and that the rehearsals had been hilarious.
The cast are Announcer: James Craib, Nick Charles: David Cox. Nora Charles: Murray Wilson, Arthur the Goofy Groom and friend of Nick's: Anthony Clarke and Jane: Coral Jocic.
Others are Bingo Burns: Wendy Craib, Georgie the Germ: James Craib, Snakey Simon: James Craib, Bellboy: a.k.a.Honeymoon Harvey, Bryan King and Minister: David Cox.
The Other Side of the Stars written by Wyllis Cooper has a cast of three.
Esau is played by Bryan King, Dorothy: Coral Jocic and Steve, her brother: Anthony Clarke.
Ms Frederick said the play was another Cooper's nail-biter.
``This will be Anthony's last performance as he is moving to Melbourne. We will miss him as he a real pro.'' she said.
