THE recent driveway death of a Riverstone toddler has prompted Blacktown Rotary member Marc Allison to encourage drivers to use safe reversing aids.
Mr Allison said motorists should consider installing cameras and sensors on the back of their vehicles.
``I've got a toddler Camilla, who was two last March,'' he said.
``I also know something about what it's like to lose a child. Before we had our daughter, my wife Malvina experienced some unsuccessful pregnancies.''
Mr Allison is a director of his family's funeral business, T. J. Andrews, and said he saw more tragedy than most people do in their lives.
``I believe it's part of my vocation to prevent premature death,'' Mr Allison said.
He has approached Cumberland Ford Blacktown for help. It now offers 20per cent discounts on fitting vehicles with reverse cameras or sensors.
``We're more than happy to to assist families and friends of toddlers as we are able,'' a Cumberland Ford Blacktown representative said.
``But remember that reversing technology is not the only part of the solution. As road safety experts say keep kids close, keep them safe.''
Mr Allison said he was grateful to the dealership and agreed with that advice.
``It's easy to think that technology will solve the problems,'' he said.
``If children are near the road, hold their hands and don't let them go please.''
