A LONG-awaited sensory garden for people with disabilities has been opened in Blacktown.
The garden, at Peckys Disability Services centre at Prospect Reservoir, was built with the assistance of Good Guys Prospect staff and other volunteers.
Good Guys proprietor Karl Holdsworth visited the garden to inspect the completed works.
Mr Holdsworth made plans for his staff to work with other volunteers on the garden from early last year.
Peckys is a non-profit organisation that provides living skills through a variety of programs to enhance the quality of life of those living with a disability.
It works with clients to build feelings of self-worth and self-respect.
Peckys spokeswoman Heidi Day said her organisation appreciated the contributions made by Good Guys Prospect.
``Like most charities, we rely on support from the local community and businesses to help us raise much needed funds,'' she said. ``We're overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who give their time and expertise every weekend for about a year.''
Mr Holdsworth said Good Guys Prospect staff had supported Peckys and other community programs since October 2006. His store also gives charities a percentage of each transaction.
