A SERIAL killer is on the loose.
Thankfully, the only people who will come into contact with him are the cast of the independent horror film Silent Eyes, which is now being shot around Toongabbie.
The project is a labour of love for a group of young actors and film-makers from across western
Sydney.
The story follows a group of teenagers and their attempts to flee from a killer who wants desperately to silence them after they apparently witnessed one of his murderous sprees.
It has a similar theme to genre classics including Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Producer Peter Moalaeua said the screenplay was written by 21-year-old director James Peniata.
Moalaeua, an aspiring actor, first met Peniata in Sydney about two years ago.
``He asked me to read his screenplay. I was very impressed and suggested we shoot it,'' he said.
Peniata said they started shooting the film about two weeks ago and would complete the filming in Toongabbie next week.
``We'll need another two months to edit, add the sound effects and put in the finishing touches,'' he said.
Peniata, who graduated as an actor from a Sydney film school two years ago, said he had been making short films while waiting for his break.
``I have also been helping my fellow actors and film-makers in the recent Sydney Tropfest short film competition as actor and film crew.''
He first started working on the Silent Eyes script when he was in year 7, left it for a few years, then finished it in 11 months last year.
``I was encouraged when Peter said he became terrified when he read the screenplay at night and encouraged me to shoot it,'' Peniata said.
Moalaeua said the film had a cast of 21 actors and 12 crew members, all aged in their 20s.
