CHILDREN in Kings Langley and Marayong are shaving or colouring their hair for cancer research.
Kings Langley brother and sister team, Jesse, 12, and Raaya Tiko, 10, will lose their copious locks of hair this week.
``We're doing this to help people with leukaemia,'' Raaya said. ``We want to help people who are less fortunate.''
Jesse said: ``I was going to dye my hair at first. But if I shave my head I'll raise more money.''
Raaya said: ``We've already raised $370.''
She also said they were looking forward to a new bald look.
Her brother said he was overdue for a haircut anyway.
``I think it'll be a bit cool,'' Jesse said. ``It'll be strange, not being able to see my hair hanging down in front of me.''
Crazy Hair Week at Marayong's Holy Family Children's Services will see children dyeing, cutting or shaving their hair.
But their fund-raiser is for more personal reasons.
One of their clients, Skye Plunkett, lost her father, Neville Chandler, to cancer last year. He was only 58.
Her son, Jacob Henry, 8, is shaving his head and his sister, Alicia Henry, 3, will settle for a different hair colour.
``I'm doing this for my granddad,'' Jacob said. ``I think shaving my head will be a cool look, too.''
Ms Plunkett said she would dye her hair and cut it short. ``I shaved my head two years back but I won't go that far this time,'' she said.
Holy Family Children's director Sharon Peterson said it was their chance to honour Mr Chandler's memory as well as help the community.
