BLACKTOWN City Demons dominated from start to finish but Bonnyrigg White Eagles took the points in their Telechoice Premier League match at Gabbie Stadium on Saturday night.
The Eagles won 1-0 and the Demons' finals challenge is effectively over.
They are seven points from the five and even if they won their last five matches they would still have just a mathematical chance.
Poor finishing in front of goal by the home side and some desperate Eagles' defence told Saturday night's story.
Super-sub Almir Dizdaric scored the winner with a well-taken goal after 68 minutes.
How Blacktown would have loved a repeat of Tyler Simpson's scissors-kick goal in extra time that earned the nine-man Demons a 1-1 draw against the Sydney Tigers the week before!
Simpson's was acclaimed the goal of the season, perhaps the goal of any season.
The Demons' performance wasn't inferior this time, just the lamentable finishing, and coach Ken Schembri wasn't displeased.
``My guys were great tonight, I can't fault them,'' he said.
``We worked hard during the week and we knew how we wanted to play tonight.
``I thought we were on top throughout the match and we deserved to win.
``Unfortunately, if you don't score goals you won't win matches and we didn't score.
``It's disappointing though again, I cannot fault my players, except for not scoring.''
Meanwhile, the Demons Grade 20 won 3-0.
The Demons will host Sydney Olympic on Saturday.
