JARRYD Hayne has continued his remarkable 2009 by winning Parramatta's player-of-the year award. Hayne is about to leave for England with the Australian squad for the four-nations series.
It was appropriate that fullback Hayne should win the Ken Thornett Medal, because he may acquire the legendary status accorded former Parramatta fullback Thornett.
Other award winners included:
Michael Cronin clubman of the year: Nathan Hindmarsh; Jack Gibson coach's award: Joel Reddy; Eric Grothe rookie of the year: Daniel Mortimer; Ron Lynch media award: Jarryd Hayne; Steven Ella Toyota Cup player of the year: Jason Baitieri; Brett Kenny Toyota Cup coach's award: Daniel Galati; Bob O'Reilly NSW Cup player of the year: Justin Horo; Geoff Gerard NSW Cup coach's award: Brendan Oake; Peoples' Choice members player of the year: Jarryd Hayne. Meanwhile, Parramatta chief executive officer Paul Osborne is negotiating with Daniel Anderson to extend the coach's contract until the end of 2013. Winger Luke Burt is expected to reject overtures from the NZ Warriors and play out his contract, which ends at the end of next season. Fellow winger Eric Grothe jun. is contracted for next season but his future remains undecided, with England or Japanese rugby still options.
