TOGETHER the Heart of the Hawkesbury Inc and Sand Sculpturing Australia have announced that the second Hawkesbury International Sand Sculpting Championship has started at Howe Park in Windsor.
Fourteen sand sculptors from countries around the world are working feverishly to complete their sculpture using 20 tonnes of sand each.
The sculptors work will show their interpretation of the theme "Fairytales and Fables" and already there are all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures emerging from the compacted sand.
With the judging set to take place on January 13, the sculptors have a mere four days to carve their way into the history books, every competitor trying his or her hardest but only one them can be crowned Champion for the 2013 Hawkesbury international Sand Sculpting Championships.
All the sculptors have a set of rules they must follow as they carve. The only materials they can use is sand and water, they cannot use powered equipment or template and they have specific hours they can work each day, 8am to 6pm.
They also must carve their piece as a 360 degree sculpture and all their designated sand must stay within the boundary of their own plot.
