School adventure begins

KYE BURLEY will walk through the school gates with confidence when he begins kindergarten on Thursday.

The five-year-old from Kellyville Ridge will join older brother Zane, who is in year 6 at St Michael's Primary School.

Kye's mother Yasmin said having an older brother to look out for him and a school readiness program at preschool had made Kye comfortable with the milestone.

"He's definitely ready to go," Mrs Burley said.

"He's very excited."

The pair have practised sitting at the table and packing up things to help prepare Kye for the classroom.

"We do a lot of things like practise for lunch breaks, which sounds a bit silly but at school they eat at 11am and at 1pm.

"They can't snack throughout the day like they do at home or at preschool so I think that also helps to prepare Kye.

"At school they have only 20 minutes to sit and eat lunch and then it's pack your stuff up and it's time to play.

"It's all very new for them."

Mrs Burley said her children were eager to return to school and activities such as basketball and football with their friends.

"They have 30 kids in their class and they're all classified as 'my friends'," she said.

"In the holidays they're limited as to how many of those children they can play with so . . . they look forward to school."
