The first day of kindergarten is scary for some kids, but five-year-old Angus McKinder was excited for his first day at Marayong South Public School.
He was ready at 9am by the classroom door with his Parramatta Eels backpack, lunch box and one dollar in his pocket to spend at the canteen.
Quietly excited for the start of his school life, the youngster said he didn’t have any particular plans for his spending money.
“I’m more nervous than he is,” his mum Jenni McKinder said.
“He’s the youngest of four boys, but he’s ready.’’
The morning routine went smoothly with Angus following the lead of his older brothers, who had plenty of advice for him.
“My eldest was remembering his first day and saying, ‘you’ll be fine, you’ll make friends, it’s no problem’,” Jenni said.
She said she would probably be the only one to shed a few tears.
Angus joined his fellow new kindergarteners and watched on as the older kids sat quietly for the morning assembly until it was time to start class.
He gave his mum a kiss goodbye and with no tears, headed off for his first day of kindy.
