Man arrested after stealing a police car in Dean Park

A man has been arrested and charged with more than 20 offences over the alleged theft of a police highway patrol car during a vehicle stop in Dean Park last month.

About 11.45am on Sunday, January 27, 2013, police from the Traffic Strike Force and Mt Druitt police stopped a car on the M7, near the Richmond Road off ramp.

It’s alleged the male driver struggled with officers, who were attempting to search him, before breaking free and running away.

He then allegedly stole a police highway patrol car and drove away.

An initial search for the man was unsuccessful; however, the stolen police car was found later that evening on Robertson Road, Parramatta.

Mt Druitt detectives launched an investigation into the incident and, following information received, attended a home on Hythe Street, Mt Druitt, just before midday today (Tuesday 12 February 2013).

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he has since been charged with 24 matters including police pursuit not stop x 4, resist officer in execution of duty, assault officer in execution of duty, escape police custody and take and drive conveyance.

He’s been refused bail and is due to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 13 February 2013)

Police would like to thank the media and public for their assistance.
