Trade union hub opens in Parramatta

A central hub for trade unionists will be launched today in Parramatta, as Unions NSW ramps up political campaigning prior to the September federal election.

Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon will kick start the campaign today by opening a new hub for all unions in western Sydney at Gough Whitlam Plaza, Parramatta.

The hub, he said, would provided a resource for workplace activists and trade unionists in Sydney’s west as they intensify community, industrial and political campaigns in the election year.

Local union representatives and workers will be joined by a visiting delegation of Japanese trade unionists from Rengo Tokyo – the Japanese Trade Union Confederation.

The Japanese delegation will talk about the workplace environment in Japan, where they say manufacturing and the public sector are under threat.

Union leaders from both countries will discuss contract, casualisation and other forms of insecure work that they say threatens the middle class in both countries.

The launch will start at 2.15pm.
