Riverstone student’s artwork got the right reaction

Riverstone resident Oliver Kirby’s artistic expression has not been confined to the classroom.

The former Wyndham College student’s 2012 HSC artwork ‘‘Dominion of us’’ was one of 67 from across NSW to be selected for the Artexpress at the Armory exhibition which opened on March 5.

Featured artworks are linked by the theme ‘‘Figure attraction: interaction and reaction’’.

Mr Kirby said his work was about the interplay between identity and technology.

“My work explores the search for identity in the context of the digital age, where we are physically located in the ‘real’ world but our ideas and opinions are shared in the online world,’’ he said.

‘‘I am trying to make my audience consider the question who are they? The persona they portray in the cyber or the physical world?’’

Mr Kirby has started a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Western Sydney and works as a freelance photographer.

The free exhibition is on at the Armory Gallery, Jamieson Street, Sydney Olympic Park, until Sunday, April 25, 10am - 4pm.
