KYM Schrickker entered Crestwood Idol talent quest totally by accident and now may even win it.
"I was in Castle Towers and I heard people screaming," Kym, of Seven Hills, said.
What she'd walked past was the first heat of the six-year-old talent quest that gives up-and-coming local singers a place to get performance and stage experience.
"I asked how can I get into it and was told they had a vacancy," Kym said.
Her rendition of Rodgers and Hart's The Lady is a Tramp as sung by Ella Fitzgerald has put her in the running to win the overall prize of an acoustic guitar and tuition to the value of $600.
Senior Idol (over 13 years) will also win $200, as will the Junior Idol (12 and under).
Runners-up will each receive $100.
A former Terra Sancta College student, Kym is studying a bachelor of business course at UWS but says, "at the end of the day music will be my business".
The grand final is this Sunday, starting at 6.20pm at Crestwood Fair, Crestwood Oval, the corner of Peel Road and Chapel Lane, Baulkham Hills. The fair starts at 11am and also features sport and leisure activities, demonstrations, carnival rides and fireworks.
The Idol judges are Lynne McGranger (best known for her role as Irene Roberts in Home and Away), TV presenters Ron Wilson and Tim Webster, radio host Gareth McCray, Tim McLean Smith from Sony Music, and Vicki Dwyer, master director of Circular Keys Chorus.
