THE Hills Sports High School have won the state schoolboys open sevens rugby union championship.
They defeated St Gregory's College, Campbelltown 22-14 in a bruising grand final at Woollahra Oval after it had been 12-12 at half-time.
The Hills had beaten Ashcroft High 19-7, Scots College 34-12 and Westfields Sports High 29-15 on their path to the decider.
Speedy backs Ofa Siale, Shaun Fitzgerald and Ken Mildwater were ideally suited to sevens and proved hard to contain all day.
Rugged forward A.J. Fonoti and playmaker Tom McCallum also stood for the champions.
The state's best 16 teams played in the finals after months of lead-up
The Hills will represent NSW in the Australian championships to be played on the Gold Coast next month.
The NSW title was known as the Hong Kong Sevens because the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office was joint organiser with the NSW Rugby Union.
