New Blacktown chamber gives voice to businesses

THE new Greater Blacktown Business Chamber elected its executive board last week.

Its first president Trevor Oldfield said he and Frank Webb, the chamber's new public officer, had been nutting out the idea for a Blacktown chamber for a couple of months. Both belong to the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce.

"We recognised a need for the Blacktown business community to have a conduit to reach council and local members," Mr Oldfield said.

The new chamber held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday at Blacktown Workers Club and will meet again this Thursday to continue developing a list of member benefits and establish a membership process.

The chamber has a LinkedIn and Facebook presence and a website is under construction.

"The chamber will cater for business at various levels and will be offering membership to all local businesses and residents with home-based businesses," Mr Oldfield, of Minchinbury, said.
