Kings Langley Lions Club has donated an outdoor chess set and draught set to the Kings Langley Adventist Retirement village to increase the outdoor activities of the Village residents.
The lightweight chess pieces are up to 64 centimetres tall, making them easy to move by players with minimum bending.
Club President Derek Margerison said the group believed the games would give residents a chance to exercise their mental agility as well as provide hours of entertainment.
He said the Lions Club had a long association with the village.
The first chess game was between a village resident and a Lions Club member — Mr Margerison declined to comment on the outcome of the game.
‘‘The provision of the games is an example of the club giving practical support to the community,’’ he said.
