Student leaders: Metella Road Public School

Each week the Sun meets with our local school leaders. This week we meet the year 6 leaders of Metella Road Public School, Toongabbie, whose motto is ‘Aim High’.

Darlene Wen:

What is unique about your school? 

‘‘This school is unique because Metella Road public school provides learning that is always fun, never boring. I always look forward to coming to school every day.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

 ‘‘I aim to achieve whatever I can in whatever university I get into and I will try to enjoy the career I want. I will try to be a teacher in a university.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘A school leader is needed to help teachers and our principals the best way we can. We help our school and we try our best to aim high.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘If I were principal I would make every Friday a day where I order jet-skis and we take the whole school to go jet-skiing. I would build a life-size jumping castle in the playground.’’

Zac Zaballero:

What is unique about your school?

‘‘The teachers and students are great people with good personalities.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘I would like to become a professional street magician and be paid to perform my passion. If I’m not successful I would write fantasy novels for young adults.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

 ‘‘To be a leader of the children and make sure the kids are happy and to represent the MRPS spirit.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘1. Make sure all bubblers spray at least one flavour of soft drink.

2. Make basketball a part of PSSA [Primary Schools Sports Association].

3. A pool of lollies refilled every day.

4. Science labs in each classroom.

5. An arcade in each classroom.’’

Daniel Thirunambi:

What is unique about your school?

 ‘‘There are a lot of cultural friends and a lot of friendly teachers and beneficial resources.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘Go to a good university and become a lawyer, a doctor or a cricket player for the Sydney Sixers.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘Because it is our responsibility to keep the school following the school rules and they look upon us as their guardians.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘To grow more trees in the back field and behind the 3 to 6 COLA, recycle a lot and become green, build a playground, buy macs and iPads for school use and celebrate for school and individual achievements. Also science labs for every grade, a school pool, tennis court, baseball pitch, history gallery and a stadium.’’

Jay Shah:

What is unique about your school?

‘‘In our school we have a group of 10 captains working together.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘I want to be an engineer and do well in my job.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘I think it is important because the school needs a group of people to lead the school.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘I would introduce a cricket pitch that is further in the oval, a pool, horse riding and a tennis court.’’

Nipun Lokuwithanage:

What is unique about your school?

‘‘Students are always welcoming.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

 ‘‘I wish to become an aviation engineer.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘A good school needs a good school leader that they can look up to.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘I would introduce stricter school rules and a science lab for each grade.’’

Lachlan Daniels:

What is unique about your school?

 ‘‘In this school the symbol is a tree which is a sign to grow.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘Hopefully get a construction job to build houses or be a mechanic.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

 ‘‘To set and make an example and organise the school.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘An arcade, but the games are educational, a baseball stadium, and improve the technology to the 21st century.’’

Alyssa Craig:

What is unique about your school?

 ‘‘Everyone is nice and caring and the teachers are the best. They are so friendly. I love our school.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘I want to go to university and get a good paying job like as a teacher, hairstylist for movies, interior designer, artist, fashion designer, lawyer or dance teacher.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘I think it is important because it develops my leadership skills and I am a great role model. I can help teachers  as well with this role to make their job easier.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘If I were the principal I would make there be a huge Coke pool that was not sticky and you could drink it. Everyone would also get a huge bag of lollies when they come to the school. This would be the most popular school ever.’’

Eleni Arvanitis: 

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘I would either like to be a lawyer or a teacher.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘Because we need to be relied on by teachers  to be responsible and take on our role as school leader.’’

Ifyou were the principal what would you introduce?

 ‘‘I would introduce laptops for the year 6 students to do their projects and recounts, narratives and stories. I would also build a school pool and a baseball pit.’’

Eloise De Morais:

What is unique about your school?

‘‘We have fun in all our work.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘Become a professional dancer and get a good job.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

‘‘To help make choices and help the principal.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘Build a bigger back field so we can have our sports carnivals here and save money for other things.’’

Mathanakanth Srikanth:

What is unique about your school?

‘‘There are a lot of kind friends to be friends with.’’

What do you want to do when you leave school?

‘‘Be a lawyer, barrister, doctor or scientist.’’

Why do you think being a school leader is important?

 ‘‘To help little children and be respectful to everyone.’’

If you were the principal what would you introduce?

‘‘Science labs for each grade.’’
