Blacktown residents have the opportunity to thank their local constabulary by nominating them for a Police Officer of the Year award.
Nomination forms are available at Westpoint shopping centre’s customer desk on level 3, online at westpoint.com.au or by calling 88252400.
The closing date is April 18.
The award was jointly launched by Westpoint manager Amanda Johnson, Blacktown mayor Len Robinson, Superintendent Gary Merryweather and Rotary Club of Blacktown City president Pennie Holley yesterday.
Rotary Club secretary David Bamford said the awards were introduced in 1998.
‘‘The award acknowledges outstanding acts of courage, compassion, understanding or devotion to duty provided to the community during 2013 by officers in the area,’’ he said.
The award is organised by the Rotary Club of Blacktown City and is sponsored by Westpoint Blacktown and supported by Blacktown Council, the Blacktown Sun and Blacktown Workers Club.
Westpoint manager Amanda Johnson said the award recognised the important role undertaken by police in our community and the many challenges each officer experienced every day.
‘‘It allows us to reward police officers for exemplary performance above and beyond the call of duty,” she said.
“We are proud to support such an integral service in our community.”
She said the winner would be announced in a presentation evening at Blacktown Workers Club on May 13.
