MELVA Larfield is responsible for much of the furniture at Marayong South Public School.

The Marayong South Wanderers founder has raised more than $100,000 for the school over the past 30 years, through raffles run on the community organisation's bus trips.

Principal Mandy Hollis said the money had helped to buy technology, cameras, fans, airconditioning, sound systems, gym mats, office furniture, trophies, Lego, hall curtains, books and a shade cover.

Mrs Larfield was thanked at a school assembly on Wednesday for this and a generous contribution to the school's 50th birthday celebrations in 2012.

"The contribution of Melva and the Marayong South Wanderers is very greatly appreciated by the whole school community," Mrs Hollis said.

Year 6 pupil Christina Tabone said she couldn't imagine her school without the things Melva had contributed.

"She's helped a lot in the years that I've been coming to this school and she helped a lot with the fete we had for our 50th anniversary which all the kids enjoyed," she said.

"I remember when they put up the shade covers a lot of the kids were very excited and now we love going up there to join our lines when we go to class and when we have our morning assemblies."

Mrs Larfield's daughter Corina attended the school from 1978 and her fund-raising efforts for the school began 33 years ago when it needed some computers.

"I was only going to do two bus trips . . . but we're still doing them! I mainly take out seniors on the bus. It's good to see them enjoy themselves and get out to places they wouldn't go on their own.

"It's a bit embarrassing to be recognised for what I do."
