The Blacktown Festival kicked off with the My Lords & Ladies Medieval Fayre held at Nurragingy Reserve on Saturday.
Hundreds of residents attended the event which Blacktown Council spokesman described as "a step back in time to the dark world of our medieval ancestors.
The festival will continue to May 26 and conclude with the Streets Alive and Parade event in Blacktown central business district next Saturday.

Activities on the day included a market with colourful pavilions, combat displays and period jewellery making.
The International Jousting Competition was back by popular demand with riders from New Zealand, London and Australia all seeking to claim the prestigious title.
The council spokeman said locals experienced the excitement of living history at its best.
