Wanderers hold first training session in Blacktown

Western Sydney Wanderers introduced six new players to the public for the squad’s first training session in Blacktown this week.

A small group of supporters braved the windy conditions at Blacktown International Sportspark to welcome the club’s two new additions Ante Covic and Kosovo-born Newcastle Jets midfielder Labinot Haliti.

The pair were joined at training by last week’s four signings Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Michael Beauchamp, Mark Bridge and Shannon Cole.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic said he was very pleased with the experience the new players add to the team.

“All [these] players have excellent pedigrees in the A-League and each bring something different to the squad,’’ Popovic said.

The Wanderers have now filled nine of their 23 squad places.

Fans were quick to post on social networking websites that several other trialists were in attendance including Sydney FC and Winston Hills junior Jared Lum.

Many other well known players have been linked to the club including Italian international and former World Cup winner Filippo Inzaghi.

Inzaghi is out of contract with AC Milan and is thought to be looking for a marquee or guest player deal in Australia.
