Cut your power bill

A fter a long strenuous day there's nothing like a bubble bath or steamy hot shower to help you relax and unwind.

But, the increase of electricity prices could result to bathing times cut shorter.

There is a variety of hot water heating systems on the market that are cost effective and environmentally friendly.

The Sanden Eco Hot Water Heat Pump is an alternative to electricity, gas and solar heating.

Managing director Mark Padwick said the system works like a reverse refrigerator or airconditioner.

"It's similar to solar, but it's not reliant on the sun," he said.

"So, if it's a cloudy or rainy day it will still produce enough hot water.

"And when installing the unit, there's no need to get up on the roof for plumbing."

? STAR CONCEPT ?

The concept works by converting electrical energy into heat.

Air is drawn into the system by a fan, which extracts water condensation from the air known as energy.

Water is then boiled at a low pressure into a refridgent, which then transfers the heat to the water tank.

Mr Padwick said the product was regarded as one of the most energy efficient on the market.

"We've all heard about the little changes to cut your bills like turning off lights, reducing stand-by usage or changing the thermostats on the fridge," he said. "While those can save you a couple of hundred dollars a year, few people know that they can save up to 78 per cent of their hot water costs by getting an eco-friendly hot water system. It's one of the quietest on the market and it has a global warming potential of zero."

He also said consumers should shop around and find a hot water system that best suits their needs and lifestyle.

"Legislation has been changing in Australia on hot water systems as governments try to phase out old conventional electric storage systems for more eco and friendly alternatives," he said.

"To beat the carbon tax, the first easy step is to improve your hot water system, and it can save you hundreds off your bill a year."
