Seven Hills teenager charged over king-hit death

An 18-year-old from Seven Hills has been charged over the death of Thomas Kelly, who died after he was punched in Kings Cross earlier this month.

Kieran Loveridge, was arrested at the Belmore Sports Ground yesterday evening has been charged with one count of murder, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of common assault.

Detectives handcuffed the teenager as he sat in the grandstand with a friend watching a Canterbury Bulldogs coaching session.

Mr Kelly was hit as he walked through Kings Cross with his girlfriend and another friend just after 10pm on Saturday, July 7.

The accounting cadet and former Kings School student was punched once in the head in an unprovoked attack.

He died in hospital two days later when his parents, Ralph and Kathy Kelly, decided to switch off his life support.

Police will allege four people, including Thomas Kelly, were assaulted that night.

Strike Force Mohawk, comprising detectives from the Homicide Squad with the assistance of Kings Cross police, has been investigating the incident.

Loveridge was refused bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court today, Thursday, July 19.

Inquiries under Strike Force Mohawk are continuing.
