Blacktown residents can enjoy movies screened using the latest technology

FILM lovers in Blacktown will be the first in Australia to enjoy the latest in digital film projection technology at Hoyts cinema.

New releases The Dark Knight Rises, Ted and Snow White and the Huntsman now screening on the Xtremescreen in Cinema 5 at Westpoint Shopping Centre features the use of Christie Duo technology - two digital projectors to deliver the brightest, pixel-perfect image on a 28.1 metre wide screen.

The second biggest screen that has yet to use the new technology in Australia is 28 metres wide and the third biggest is 22.6 metres wide. Both are in Melbourne.

This new innovation blasts eight million pixels from each projector onto the largest traditional movie screen.

Movie-goers will experience a state-of-the-art cinema experience ''second to none in the world with comfortable seating and the latest digital surround sound'', Blacktown cinema manager Kristen La said.

She said Hoyts Blacktown was the first in Australia, and only the third in the world, to deploy the cutting-edge technology.

‘‘The picture has to be seen to truly appreciate the clarity and brightness that the technology now delivers,” she said.

A spokesman for Christie said its onscreen image was four times the resolution of a full high-definition TV.
