Monk fails to make Olympics final

Controversial Blacktown swimmer Kenrick Monk has failed to make the final of the men's 200 metres freestyle race at the London Olympics.

Chinese swimmer Sun Yang streaked clear of his competitors to be the top qualifier for the final.

Australian Thomas Fraser-Holmes also made it to the final.

Monk qualified for the semi-finals after finishing third in his heat.

He clocked 1.46.94 seconds to qualify seventh fastest, while countryman Thomas Fraser-Holmes also progressed to the last 16, having placed fifth in the same heat.

Monk has been caught up in several controversies in recent times, first alleging that he was injured by a hit and run driver and then posting pictures of himself and fellow swimmer Nick D'Arcy holding guns.
