BARNIER Public School 's Owen Penney knows how to save money.
The Quakers Hill pupil came second to a girl from Mount Barker, South Australia in a Commonwealth Bank competition to find Australia's top school saver.
Owen has earned his school a share of prizes which included Apple iPads, movie tickets and funds for an upcoming classroom excursion.
Veronica Howarth, head of Commonwealth Bank school program, said her bank had been teaching children about financial literacy for more than 80 years.
She said the ''Be a Dollarmite'' competition provided the bank with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward the saving efforts of its school bankers.
‘‘Given the participation by thousands of students from around the country, Owen’s placement is a wonderful achievement,” she said.
