New wheels send brothers into a spin

CAR racing fans will see "double" when Marayong's twin brothers compete in the NSW Motor Race Championships at Wakefield Park, near Goulburn this Saturday.

Their father, Bill Harris, helped his sons, Will and Brad, 20, build another Suzuki GTI car for Brad to race against his brother in the under 1600cc category sprint event.

Previously, the two brothers shared a Suzuki 1300cc car and couldn't compete against each other.

Brad, who is younger by a few minutes, came second in the sprint event in 2009 and 2010 and was the Rookie of the Year in 2010.

Will came third in the NSW Road Racing Club championships last year.

Will came first in the Bathurst uphill climb at Mt Panorama in 2011 and Brad was first in the downhill event in 2011.

Bill, who has been racing for about 31 years, which includes last year's Muscle Car event, said his two sons learnt to drive when they were about 13.

Will and Brad, who are working as apprentice electricians, learnt some of their skills from their father.

"I thought it was time for Brad to have his own car and we spent about $30,000 over 18 months rebuilding a 1994 Suzuki for him," he said.

"This will allow the two brothers to compete against each other and others."

Brad, who is confident of doing well with his new car in the coming State Motor Race Championships, said: "It's new and should go good."

Will said modestly that he would to try keep up with Brad in his newer and better car.

He said he would like to see who is the better driver when things are equal.

The Harris family thanked their neighbour, Ellen Moore, for allowing them to store their cars in her garage, Blacktown Patrick Auto Spares, and local business Jasitup for their support.
