Police fight to keep champion title

Police in Blacktown need sponsors so they can field a team in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull event at Richmond RAAF Base on October 13.

Their 20-person team is the current North West Metropolitan champion and they want to defend the title.

The Riot Squad took top honours last year by pulling a 50-tonne C-130 Hercules plane 10 metres in 12.28 seconds.

Team organiser Sergeant Gordon Stacey appealed to local companies and businesses to help them to raise $1500: $1000 for the entry fee and $500 for equipment and T-shirts.

He said the event would raise funds for Special Olympics NSW, an organisation that inspired people with an intellectual disability to achieve their personal best through regular sport and competition.

"We have started a chocolate drive at the station for police officers and staff to contribute a gold coin for a chocolate," he said.

"After we have selected a team of 20, that will include at least three women officers, we will give them chocolates to sell to their families, relatives or friends."

Anyone wishing to sponsor or donate to Blacktown police team should contact Sergeant Gordon Stacey or Sergeant Renee Samcou on 9671 9199.
