Cat lovers are invited to a discussion on animal control being hosted by Blacktown Council on Tuesday, August 14 at 6.30pm.
The discussion will focus on strategies the council wants to implement to address irresponsible pet ownership in the hope of reducing the number of unwanted cats entering its pound.
Animal advocate advisor Mariette Blackmore said a recent council report revealed the area had twice as many stray and surrendered animals as the other seven councils combined
‘‘While progress has been made at the pound, with fewer dogs entering, and far fewer being killed, the situation for cats is dismal and out of control," she said.
‘‘In 2011, 3248 cats were killed, an increase of 155 per cent since 2003. How many will be killed in 2012?"
