IN BRIEF

Foxes on the prowl

Keep an eye on your backyard pets. We're hearing reports of fox sightings in Cornucopia Reserve and Cameo Circuit, Glenwood. "They are not small either," Linda Bunting said of the foxes she saw in Cameo Circuit. She was commenting on the Facebook page of Glenwood Community Association. Association president Bob McKay said he'd also seen foxes, "poking around the houses on Yancannia and Moulamein terraces".

Sewerage upgrades

Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly said $27 million would be invested in the Riverstone electorate for wastewater infrastructure during 2014-15 following the release of the state budget.

He said projects included the First Ponds Creek wastewater project, a $2 million upgrade of the Quakers Hill wastewater treatment plant and general expenditure to expand the wastewater network to service urban growth in the area.

Employment setback

The federal government has come under fire for axing funding for the western Sydney local employment co-ordinator introduced by the previous Labor government.

Labor Greenway MP Michelle Rowland described the decision as appalling.

"We have a high unemployment rate and a very high youth unemployment rate in our region," Ms Rowland said.

She said it was part of a plan that created almost one million jobs.
