Seven Hills West Public School pupils donned capes and other superhero outfits today to raise funds for Bear Cottage.
A gold coin donation from each pupil in kindergarten to year 6 amassed $450 for the Manly children’s hospice established by The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Stage 1 teacher Serena Pumipi said Superman, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, princesses and transformers including Bumble Bee made an appearance.
Two girls dressed to be ‘flower power’ and a year 5 boy from the schools support unit came as a fireman.
‘‘He thought outside the square,’’ she said.
‘‘I asked him why he came as a fireman and he said: ‘Because firemen are heroes because they save burning houses’.
‘‘It was a great way to finish off the week.
‘‘Bear Cottage is a final place where a lot of children go and don’t come out, so they try to give them some final moments of happiness.
‘‘Hopefully the money we raised makes a bit of a difference to families there.’
