Workers wins award

The Blacktown Workers Club was highly commended for the sustainable business and the energy efficiency categories in the Sustainable Cities Awards on July 18. The awards organised by Keep NSW Beautiful recognise achievements for the environment and sustainability. Keep NSW Beautiful David Imrie chief executive said the club is an example of innovative enterprise that will drive sustainability in NSW communities into the future," Mr Imrie said. "We're impressed with the leadership shown by entries in this year's program. The calibre of entrants is a testament to the ability of communities rising to the challenge of building a more sustainable future for our state." Auburn Council received the energy efficiency award and the Penrith Council received the waste minimisation award.

Free heart checks

The Victor Chang Health Check Booth will visit HCF Blacktown this week to offer free 10-minute heart health checks for HCF members who have extras cover.

Blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels will all be checked, and a confidential assessment will be provided.

The tests will be carried out by a registered nurse and results will be provided immediately.
