TWO former pupils of Marsden Park Public School, now in their late 80s, were guests of honour at the school's reunion last month.
Organised by former pupils Anne Birdsey (nee Daczko), Kerry Irons (nee Sabur) and her sister Jeni Chalmers (nee Sabur), the commemoration of the school's 125th anniversary was at Australiana Pioneer Village at Wilberforce where the old schoolhouse now stands.
Organisers decorated the building in the school colours of red, white and blue and added yellow wattle.
Mrs Birdsey said children who visited sat in the old desks while their dads brandished the cane at them, referring to the school's old Punishment Book from the 1880s which recorded who got what — including up to 15 strokes for some.
The last recorded recipient of the cane — Tom Veidners — was at the reunion.
Another special guest was the daughter of the longest-serving headmaster, Mr Aisbett, who brought old photos of her father's time there.
