Nick Kyrgios’ winning style doesn’t include underwear – even though he’s now a poster boy for an underwear brand.
The 19-year-old tennis wunderkind, who is the new ambassador for Australian underwear label Bonds, has said he doesn’t wear undies under his tennis whites.
“I actually don’t wear underwear on the court. I wear Nike Skins underneath my shorts,” he told Sunrise’s Samantha Armytage and David Koch during an interview slated to discuss his new sponsorship deal.
The breakfast TV hosts quickly moved on suggesting Kyrgios talk to his Wimbledon victim Rafael Nadal about his centre court wardrobe choices.
“Do you think you could have a word to Rafa about it because his whole career he’s had ‘grundy creep’?” Koch asked.
“Yeah, he always has a wedgie,” Armytage translated for the teenage tennis sensation who has replaced Pat Rafter on billboards for Bonds.
The Canberra-born tennis star, who is renowned for his giant serve and "juicy wiggle", was speaking via satellite from Florida.
Afterwards, he took to Twitter and blamed a poor connection for his vague answers, saying that he "couldn't hear everything" during the Sunrise exchange.

However, the interview faux pas was like water off a duck's back for Kyrgios after he was nominated to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge via Instagram over the weekend.
Unlike other viral social media competitions like Neknominations, the Ice Bucket Challenge was created to raise awareness of motor neurone disease and involves those who are nominated, including Bill Gates and Oprah, to pour a bucket of ice water over themselves.
The cheeky sportsman opted for an ice cup challenge instead and had a small amount of chilled water poured over him.
His lacklustre performance follows Justin Bieber’s disappointing effort several hours later. The Baby singer, who was recently punched by Orlando Bloom, posted a video of himself pouring a saucepan of room temperature water over his small frame.
