IN BRIEF

NSW Women's Cricket

The NSW Women's Cricket team will play two series of matches at Blacktown International Sports Park this summer to defend two trophies.

Each series will be played across a weekend — Friday to Sunday — in October and December.

The schedule pits the NSW Lend Lease Breakers against the ACT Meteors and Western Australia in triple-headers in Mount Druitt, each one involving two T20 matches with a one-day match in between.

The weekends are October 10-12 and December 12-14.

The T20 matches are in the domestic WT20 competition, while the one-day matches form the Women's National Cricket League competition.

■ Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert of Ford Performance Racing Pepsi Max Crew will be at Woolworths Plumpton to meet fans on Wednesday, August 20, 3pm-4pm.

Spartans 'implode'

Blacktown City's unbelievable 7-0 win spoiled the party and ripped the NPL NSW division one football premiership from Blacktown Spartans during the weekend.

Shayne D'Cunha opened the scoring, before Ryuiji Miyazawa scored a great goal two minutes later. A penalty converted by Kearyn Baccus made it 3-0 at the break, before Matthew Lewis added the fourth. Then Mitchell Mallia came on as a substitute and helped himself to a hat-trick in 11 minutes. For Blacktown City, it was a result for the ages and a welcome end to their run of four games without a win. The sides will face-off in the finals on the same ground next weekend, but you have to wonder how on earth Spartans will recover from imploding so spectacularly.
