A young boy has died after being trapped beneath a collapsed sand dune on the NSW south coast on Monday afternoon.
NSW Police said the 10-year-old Wyndham boy had been digging in the sand dune at Terrace Beach near Eden when it collapsed.
Emergency services were called to the beach at 2.45pm and paramedics treated the child at the scene.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the boy was taken in a critical condition to Merimbula Airport via road ambulance where paramedics and the Snowy Hydro Southcare Helicopter were on the scene.
The young boy died at the airport before he could be airlifted to The Canberra Hospital.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
