- Allows security agencies to access all computers on a network based on a warrant for a single computer
- Tightens controls, increases punishment on information leaked by ASIO officers, including to journalists
- Gives intelligence officers immunity from prosecution provided they do not kill, seriously injure or commit a sexual offence
- Use of torture by security agencies explicitly ruled out
Counterterrorism Foreign Fighters Bill
To be introduced this week
- Makes it an offence to travel to designated "no-go" areas overseas without legitimate reasons
- Broadens definition of terrorism to include its promotion or encouragement and training with a terrorist organisation
- Lowers threshold for applications for control and detention orders from "considers" to "suspects"
- Foreign affairs minister empowered to suspend passports quickly on ASIO recommendation
