The odds will be short, but Lumosty looks a class above her rivals. A heavily backed Thousand Guineas favourite, her chances were ruined when she was checked soon after the start and got too far out of her ground. Ran the fastest last 600m in 34.2, so her eighth was much better than it reads and blinkers go on.

GALAXY PEGASUS
A Kilmore restricted win would normally not equate to Cox Plate day success, but this was just what the colt needed. After a walk-in-the-park maiden win on debut, Galaxy Pegasus was thrown in the deep end in the group 2 Danehill Stakes and, after racing on the pace, faded. Tellingly, Damien Oliver rode him with cover for a routine win at Kilmore, all part of the colt's education. He can box seat behind likely leaders Greco and Bullpit and finish too well.

TRUST IN A GUST
What a dream horse if you have been following Trust In A Gust this spring - four wins, two at group 1 level and a second from five starts. Now another challenge stepping out of handicaps into weight-for-age. He has to concede his main danger Speediness a half-kilogram for a threequarters- of-a-length win in the Toorak, which won't be enough to stop this model racehorse winning again. Trust In A Gust is likely to trail likely leader Havana Rey and proved his ability to run a strong 1600m with his Toorak win.

Tasmania's pride and glory The Cleaner will be sent to the front by Steve Arnold from his outside draw and in his usual style make this Cox Plate a survival of the fittest. Those tactics will play into the hands of Adelaide as the practice of pacemakers in feature races might be foreign to us but is common place in British racing. It is designed to ensure the best and strongest horse emerges as the winner. He won a tight-turning, left-hand track at group 1 level in the US and last start caught the eye the way he finished off in a group 2 in France over 2400m after being held up for a run.

TANGO'S DAUGHTER
Open-class form for a mare is always a good pointer when dropping back to a race for her own sex as is the case with Tango's Daughter. She was brave in the 1400m Weekend Hussler when she momentarily took the lead before being swamped late for a close third. She is a group 2 winner at 1600m and although she carries a weight penalty for that win she will settle in the first four and so make her own luck.
