A 19 year old man driving 45kmph over the speed limit while intoxicated has been charged with mid-range drunk driving.
The P-plater from from Kalkite in the Snowy Mountains was detected by police driving at 138kmph on Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne at 9.30am on Saturday.
The driver of the gold Holden Commodore returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.089.
The man will appear in Cooma Local Court in late November to face charges of exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kph and mid-range drink driving.
Monaro LAC Inspector Scott Tozer said the behaviour of the driver defied logic, particularly on a weekend where several thousand motor cycle riders were in the alpine area for the Snow Motor Cycle Ride.
"Not only was he travelling at a speed that endangers himself and the entire community, but he did so while under the influence of alcohol."
Inspector Tozer said police would be out in force throughout the weekend and reminded motorists to take care on the roads with heavy rains predicted.
